Feng Shui can have an impact on your prosperity, relationships and your energy. And regardless of the space in which you live, the principles of Feng Shui can still be applied — whether it’s an apartment, studio or even dorm room.
The reason that Feng Shui is effective even in a small space is because it’s all about balance… And balance can be achieved in any space, regardless of its size. So here is to your Feng Shui apartment.
The basic elements in Feng Shui are wood, metal, fire, earth, metal and water. The key to success is making sure they all interact in balance to achieve maximum results. The process begins by looking around your living space to determine which of Feng Shui’s basic elements are present.
Make sure none of the elements are out of balance, replacing wood elements with fire or metal if you already have too many wood elements. Likewise, water, metal and fire should be replaced with one of the other elements if too much of one exists in a living space.
The addition of different elements can be as simple as the inclusion of pictures, candles or plants.
Another technique for achieving the maximum potential of Feng Shui is battling clutter. That’s because one of the basic principles of Feng Shui is allowing chi or energy to flow through a room, which can be impeded by clutter. A cluttered room may block the flow of chi, causing it to become trapped in certain areas of a room.
Preventing this involves the placement of furniture to assure chi is not blocked. It’s also important to consider whether furniture, and other elements in a room, are not placed in such a way that chi flows too quickly which may occur if all of a room’s furniture is placed against walls.
There also other considerations involved in avoiding clutter to achieve the maximum benefits of Feng Shui that include:
- Chi will flow better when clutter is moved, in regard to the items in a room that are not used
- Furniture should be placed in such a way there are pathways between rooms or spaces to assure there is an unencumbered flow of chi between areas
- Purchase furniture with rounded edges to avoid the points
- You can make a room more even by selecting furniture that is lighter in weight and smaller in proportions
- Lighting can be effective by helping to open up small areas and give the appearance than an area is larger
- Use natural light whenever possible
Mirrors are effective in making a room appear larger. But be careful, because the placement of mirrors may reflect chi in a negative way.
While paint is typically associated as a means of brining a specific color to a room, a wall’s colors doesn’t have to be the only means of achieving a specific color for an area. Pillows of a certain color can be added in a living room, while large paintings with the associated colors can help achieve your goals for Feng Shui in that area. Wall hangings, plaques, and lamp shades with specific colors are yet another way to bring the desired color to a room.
Remember, it’s all about balance and achieving that is simple with Feng Shui if you’re willing to apply certain principles to your apartment, dorm room, or other small room.
