Feng Shui Garden

Feng Shui is all about creating positive energy for living spaces, but it begins outdoors. This is where you can create your Feng Shui garden.

The design of a home’s garden can also improve all aspects of a homeowner’s life. The process begins with reviewing the different principles associated with Feng Shui. Start by reviewing the path chi takes. Chi involves the flow of positive energy.

And chi is especially important in a garden. This is because a home’s garden represents a homeowner’s future.

Start by counteracting aspects of negative or bad chi in your garden. What are some of the negative causes of chi in your garden? Among them:

  • Electrical lines
  • Large buildings in the area
  • Hospitals near your home
  • The existence of cemeteries close to your home
  • Dead ends in your neighborhood

Of course, you may have found the perfect home only to realize that it is located near one of these facilities, has exposed power lines or is on a dead end street. But don’t despair, because there are also ways to counteract these negative sources of chi in your garden that include:

  • Wind chimes
  • Upward facing lights like the ones found on walkways
  • Gazing balls
  • The placement of statues in the garden

Allowing for the free movement of chi also involves removing clutter from a garden. This is because clutter can block the flow of energy. Some of the ways to achieve this include:

  • Populating your garden with plants that are thriving and removing any that are dead
  • Place plants, flowers, statues and other items in your garden in such a manner that it creates a sense of peace and inspiration, as opposed to stagnation and frustration
  • Create curved pathways that allow chi to move gracefully through your yard and in a manner that is unencumbered

Sketching out your garden is the first step in designing an area that is in perfect harmony with Feng Shui. Compare the sketch to a second that you draw that includes the placement of plants, flowers and items to achieve the greater benefits of Feng Shui and then begin to make those changes.

It’s also important to include all of the elements of Feng Shui — earth, fire, metal, wood and water — and a garden is the perfect location for these elements. This is because each of these can easily be represented in a garden setting:

  • The earth can be represented with stones, both those that are used for pathways and walkways, along with those used as decoration
  • Water can be included with a water garden or fountain
  • A metal bench, statue or ornament can bring metal to the area
  • Fire can be achieved with the red colors of plants and flower, along with ornaments and lighting
  • Wood is natural through the presence of plants, trees and shrubs

Allow Feng Shui to flow properly in your garden and you can expect an area that not only peaceful and relaxing, but also that battle negative elements while promoting those that are positive.
