Feng Shui House Numbers

Can house numbers play a role in helping with Feng Shui? Perhaps, but while numbers don’t cause trouble some can be more helpful than others.

The luckiest numbers in Feng Shui are 1, 6 and 8, while the numbers 2 and 5 are believed to have less harmony with Feng Shui. Stay away from the number 4 if you can because it sounds like the word “death” in Chinese.

But selecting house numbers to achieve the maximum benefits of Feng Shui isn’t as simple as coloring a room or placement of furniture and other items.

Other considerations include:

  • Outside area and location. This is important because a home should face a good direction, based on the Bagua. A Bagua divides a room into nine segments, each of which represents a different area of your life
  • It is also believed that a house number should be in harmony with a homeowner’s date of birth
  • Know how to counteract auspicious house numbers. This can be done by taking care to avoid placing the numbers on a wall or door
  • Likewise, lucky house numbers can be used to an owner’s advantage. Homeowners with house numbers that are more auspicious are said to have more luck in selling their home. The numbers change each year in a homeowner’s life, however, and a chart should be consulted to determine their meaning based on the location of a home
  • Other ways to create positive energy involves selecting numbers that are auspicious. Make every attempt to find a house number with the right numbers, 1, 6 or 8. Also, review the numbers of homes near yours. While 2 and 5 are not the most preferable numbers, all others are neutral except for 4 which you should avoid
  • Foo dogs can be effective in protecting your home. Place the dogs either on your porch or in the yard if the statues are larger. It’s important to always have two dogs and have them facing outward, because this scares away any bad luck lurking near your residence
  • Wind chimes can also help chi move more effectively. To achieve maximum effectiveness, they should be hollow metal and there should be five rods
  • Water will also help absorb bad chi. This can be accomplished with a fountain or bird bath near the entrance of your home. Be careful though in giving consideration so that the fountain or bird bath doesn’t allow for the dissipation of chi from the area as a result of positive energy flowing out of the area

Learn to live with your house numbers if nothing can be done about them. Realizing what can be done, however, can also go a long way toward realizing the full benefits of Feng Shui house numbers.
